Terms of Service
Last updated: 5 August 2026
These terms govern your use of Kept, a self-hosted personal-finance tool for Australian households, served at keptsavings.com and myfamilyfinance.app. Please read them carefully.
1. Acceptance of these terms
By accessing or using Kept ("Kept", "the app", "the service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use Kept. These terms should be read together with our Privacy Policy.
2. What Kept is
Kept is an informational personal-finance tool. It helps you bring together your bank statements, accounts, transactions, assets and income into one clear view of your household's money. You add your own data — by uploading CSV or PDF statements, by optionally connecting an email mailbox to collect invoices, or by entering values directly — and Kept organises, categorises and summarises it. Kept does not connect to your bank and does not ask for your bank login.
3. Not financial, tax, or investment advice
Kept is an informational tool, not a financial adviser. Nothing in Kept — including its figures, summaries, categorisations, projections, subscription and cashflow insights, tax-related calculations, or any other output — constitutes financial, tax, accounting, legal or investment advice, and it is not a recommendation to take or not take any action.
Kept's outputs are automated estimates based on the data you provide and may contain errors or omissions. You are solely responsible for your own financial decisions. Always verify important figures against your official bank and provider statements, and seek advice from a qualified, licensed professional before making financial, tax or investment decisions.
4. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use Kept. Kept is designed for Australian households and is built around the statements Australian banks issue. Access is limited to email addresses approved by the operator; we may grant, refuse or revoke access at our discretion.
5. Your account and responsibilities
- You sign in with Google. You are responsible for keeping your Google account secure and for all activity under your Kept access.
- You are responsible for the accuracy of the data you add and for having the right to upload it.
- You must keep any credentials you provide (such as an email mailbox password for optional invoice collection) accurate and appropriately authorised.
- Notify us promptly at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorised access.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use Kept for any unlawful purpose or in breach of these terms;
- upload data you do not have the right to use, or that infringes others' rights;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to the app, its infrastructure, or other users' data;
- interfere with, disrupt, overload, or attempt to reverse-engineer or circumvent the security of the service; or
- use the service to build a competing product or to scrape or resell its outputs.
7. Third-party services
Kept relies on third-party services to function, including Google (sign-in), its hosting infrastructure, Yahoo Finance (public share prices), analytics/error tracking where enabled, and — only if you enable it — your chosen email provider. Your use of those services may also be subject to their own terms. We are not responsible for third-party services and do not control them.
8. Availability and changes to the service
Kept is provided on an "as available" basis. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the app at any time, and we may impose limits on certain features. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation, and we are not liable for any unavailability of the service.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
Kept is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be error-free, that figures or categorisations will be accurate or complete, or that defects will be corrected.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, right or remedy under the Australian Consumer Law or other law that cannot lawfully be excluded. Where our liability cannot be excluded but can be limited, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Kept and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or exemplary damages, or for any loss of profits, savings, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the app — including any decisions made in reliance on its outputs. Kept is provided free of charge, and to the fullest extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the service will not exceed AUD $100.
11. Termination
You may stop using Kept at any time and request deletion of your data as described in our Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate your access at any time, with or without notice, if you breach these terms or if we discontinue the service. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including sections 3, 9, 10 and 12) will survive.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Victoria, Australia. You and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Victoria, Australia and the courts competent to hear appeals from them.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the "last updated" date above, and for material changes we will take reasonable steps to notify you, such as a notice in the app. Continued use of Kept after a change means you accept the updated terms.
